How to Wear Perfume in the Mombasa Heat

Mombasa is generous with fragrance — the coastal heat makes a scent bloom, and the sea breeze carries it into the evening. But the midday sun and salt-air humidity still change the way a perfume behaves.

The first rule is restraint. Heat amplifies projection, so two sprays at 10am can feel like five by noon. Apply to skin rather than clothing, and aim for pulse points that stay relatively cool: the wrists, the base of the throat, behind the ears.

The second rule is to choose by texture. In hot weather, citrus, tea, clean musk and light florals feel natural; heavy ambers and oud can become cloying. That does not mean you must abandon your favourites — a single spray of Ombre Nomade on a cool evening is one of life's great pleasures.

Finally, store your decants away from direct sun and heat. A dresser drawer is better than a windowsill; a cool cupboard better than a bathroom shelf. Perfume is a living thing, and it rewards a little care.

“The best perfume is the one you stop noticing — because it has become part of you.”
